[DUFF] mtshungs par ldan pa  phrase> Lit. "to have equivalence with", "to be congruent with". Translation of the Sanskrit "saṃprayukta". The Sanskrit term conveys the sense of "coming together with", of being associated with and either concurrent with or congruent with, which is a litle different from the lit. sense of the Tibetan. 1) In general, for any one thing to be the same kind of thing as some thing else or equivalent to it in some way. For one thing to parallel another. For one thing to be congruent with another. E.g., ཚངས་པ་མཚུངས་པར་ལྡན་པ་སྤྱོད་པ་ "conduct that is the same as Brahma's / that parallels Brahma's". 2) In particular, when speaking of the contents of the fourth aggregate, འདུ་བྱེད་ the formatives, it is used to distinguish between those formatives that are a type of སེམས་འབྱུང་ mental event and those that are not. The former are called སེམས་དང་མཚུངས་པར་ལྡན་པ་ཡིན་པའི་འདུ་བྱེད་ meaning that they are འདུ་བྱེད་ formatives that are the same sort of thing as mind; they arise as mental events. The latter are called མཚུངས་པར་ལྡན་པ་མ་ཡིན་པའི་འདུ་བྱེད་ meaning that they are not the same sort of thing as mind; they do not arise as mental events. Because the former always arise together with mind, this term has been translated as "associated", "concurrent", "in parallel with", "in tandem with" and so on. However, that is not the meaning. The meaning is that the former are connected to mind in the sense of being the same kind of thing, whereas the latter are not.
